History: Written bio and the visual backstory short

Personality:

"If you could add in one more line of dialogue for Sombra, what would it be? 'Nobody owns me.'"

Sombra was born thirty years ago during the Omnic Crisis, when robots rose up against their human creators without warning. The threat was unparalleled, the damage widespread and it was only thanks to an elite, worldwide cadre of soldiers and specialists that machines were overthrown and the war ended. Still, for Sombra and many children like her, recovery was never so instantaneous: she was left an orphan in a city already struggling to knit its own wounds.

And hey, when you're just another hungry mouth to feed in the crowd, survival instincts are the best friend you never knew you had.

So she adapted. Learned how to press buttons to get what she wanted— and more importantly how to metaphorically do the same when it came to people around her. What she couldn't outright hack, she cheated, she lied to, she played whatever role best suited her in the moment that made living life more than just bearable. More importantly, every piece of information— every new chunk of technology added to her repertoire only brought her closer to unraveling the mystery of just what had happened all those years ago. And who was really responsible for it.

It was also a talent set that benefited her when she chose to join the infamous Los Muertos gang at an extremely young age, a criminal band with a self-serving and simultaneously selfless cause: to save the people of Mexico from the rich corporations and politicians that were feeding on the public. In a way, that duality (as true as it is false) was likely the largest influence on Sombra's young mind. A means to write off any wrongdoing not only without guilt, but also with the added benefit of profit and satisfaction. Indulging herself by investigating literally everything within her grasp (every mystery, every locked door, every celebrity, corporation and CEO) was a byproduct of her skill, confidence and success, but when she unearthed a conspiracy at the heart of Overwatch, Sombra suddenly found herself dangerously in over her head. Unable to protect herself, she erased her existence and went into hiding for years, eventually emerging again underneath an alias and aligning herself with the terrorist organization known as Talon.

As she is now, in spite of everything, Sombra never lost her curiosity or her will to push back against conspiracy. Abhorring the idea of being manipulated, it's ironic that she survives through using those around her, often times making no attempts to mask the fact. She dabbles in blackmail, protects herself beneath the banner of a group that operates opposite to Overwatch and the threat it poses, steals technology to keep her edge and then shrugs off the consequences or accusations without skipping a beat. She's a hypocrite, but hey, it's fine if you say it to her face.

Just don't act shocked when she hacks your email accounts later on. Nothing personal.

That said, as proven by her history alone, Sombra has a habit of being overly confident without realizing it, (something other characters in game will often times comment on: ie Reaper saying 'too smart for your own good' when she's taken down in a fight) and while she's endeavored to adjust and keep herself from repeating those mistakes, there's a baseline habit there that she just can't seem to shake.

All in all, Sombra isn't a good person— she's a very bad human being by default— a byproduct of circumstance for someone who was raised in a world too openly messed up to tally, but her causes are strong. She fights to keep herself safe, valuing freedom— true control— above all else. No one will ever shape her world for her: she is intangible this time around.

Setting:

Sombra's used to adapting to the extraordinary: give her a few minutes to come to terms and she'll be fine.

Besides, exploration, discovery— it might not be the exact same thing as digital delving, but her curiosity is a suffocating addiction she'll never shake. Couple that with having a few familiar faces nearby, and Sombra will likely have as much fun digitally cataloging every scrap of information within reach (or diving through dangerous territory) as she will watching her 'old friends' with a newfound intensity.

Tl;dr, if it's new, and it's fun, she's in.

Abilities/Skills:
    Hacking
    Translocation (teleportation, in essence)
    Invisibility/stealth
    shooting like a pro, bro

hacking - Using her neural interface and physical modifications, Sombra is capable of latching onto technology from a distance and either hijacking or completely shutting down its functions. Despite this, she can't go so far as to alter a device's primary function or form: a pizza cutting robot wouldn't be able to morph into a transformer or gain any sort of power from her control, but she -could- have it turn its pizza-cutter arm towards attacking its owner or something else in its vicinity. Also important to note is that it takes a certain amount of mental concentration to sustain. If Sombra is wounded, or her ability to think clearly is somehow compromised, the connection will instantly break.

translocation - Via a planted device called a 'translocator', Sombra is capable of teleporting from one location to another in an instant. That said, it's not a perpetual free ride: she can only teleport -to- wherever the translocator is currently planted. So if she threw the translocator over a wall and then teleported to it, she wouldn't then be able to just teleport right back over the wall again.

invisibility - Digital camouflage masks Sombra from sight. This does not counter infrared or body signature vision abilities, etc.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:
▲ Tech savvy/ 1337 hacker skills, adaptive beyond her limits
▲ great at assassination, or doing pretty much anything without being seen
    ▲ liar extraordinaire
▲ has cybernetic upgrades embedded into her spine and skull
▲ has a mind capable of retaining one hell of a lot of data

Weaknesses:
▲ not particularly (physically) strong, relies more on agility, speed and leverage- not to mention ingenuity to get jobs done
▲ arrogant, occasionally blind to the obvious if she's certain she's going to win
    hates authority (unless it's hers)

Items: Translocator, overcoat, SMG gun with hexadecimal interface, undercoat, undersuit + high-collared top, encrypted earpiece.

SAMPLES

[Sombra's perched a few inches away from the feed, chin tucked neatly in against her palm, glowing little claws curled where they rest against her cheek. She looks relaxed. Casual. Cloaked in the kind of expression someone uses when they're ringing up an old friend instead of sending out a wideset broadcast like a net in a storm.]

No central government, all the free space in the world— this place is paradise.

Can't believe how late I am to the party. [Mouth pulling at the corner, she reaches up to scratch at the underside of her jaw, limning it with violet light.] Almost makes me a little jealous, to be honest.

So, [Sombra starts, shifting forward by a few calculated degrees, sitting upright and dropping her hands down into her lap as a hungry little grin takes shape.] in the interest of friendship, I think we should make a trade. It's only fair, right? You've been here longer, I need somewhere to start. Information.

...And somebody to start with.
